Summary: Parenting environment today is different from when our parents raised us. It is more challenging with the onset of the internet, television, drugs, etc. To add to these, more often than not both parents are working, thus there could be lack of supervision and lack of deep understanding of each child's needs. Thus, it is important for a parent to "consciously" take on their roles as parents. Parenting does not come with a manual so it is best to study the cases of "successful" parents and see how we can learn from them. It is observed that successful parents have a long-term vision and are confident of their authority. A good parent knows his/her priorities: spouse, her/himself, children - in this particular order.
Discussions: Concerns raised in bringing up children are: too much tv, not enough time with children, not sure if we get to mold them properly, too much focus on sex especially in the media, lack of supervision, breakdown in communication.
